'Silken', 'Creston' and 'Chinook': three new apples from Canada http://pomology.org/research/000/... The Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada apple breeding programme at Summerland, BC, introduced three new apples: Silken, Creston and Chinook. Silken is an early-season, cream-coloured apple with a high lustre, ripening a few days before Gala. It will keep for eight to ten weeks in air storage. Silken is highly precocious and annual bearing. Creston is a mid-season, large, yellow-green apple with red stripes. It is harvested at about the same time as Jonagold, but possesses greater firmness and storage quality in experiments. Creston can be stored for two months in air, or four to five months in controlled atmosphere (CA) storage. Chinook has very attractive pink-red fruit of medium size. It is a late-harvest apple with excellent storage quality and shelf life. All three of these new releases have scored well in texture and flavour in taste panels.
The animal health and disease control position in Ghana http://trophort.com/research/001/... There were cases of rabies in dogs, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia in cattle and several outbreaks of swine erysipelas in pigs. An outbreak of lumpy skin disease occurred in the Volta region. There were no outbreaks of foot and mouth disease or rinderpest but there were several outbreaks of Newcastle disease, vaccination against anthrax and blackleg continued with sporadic cases occurring in endemic areas.
