The conservation of native species in Latin America
http://trophort.com/research/001/002/...
Many of Latin America's native species are medicinal plants. Traditional knowledge of such plants is currently threatened in rural communities by loss of traditional cultivation systems and conversion of agricultural and forest ecosystems to other purposes. Their conservation has been the focus of numerous activities. Conservation methods targeted at promoting biodiversity include protection of wild species on-site, cultivation in botanical gardens and collection in germplasm banks.

World Youth Symposium on Biodiversity 2009
http://www.positivenews.org.uk/artman/publish/a...
The City of Ottawa, in Ontario, Canada, is to be the proud host of the 2009 World Youth Symposium for Biodiversity. The focus of the event will be to: welcome students from around the world and to celebrate the work they are doing at home and in their communities regarding local biodiversity efforts; experience Canadian biodiversity using a full scale Bio-Blitz, which is a Biological Survey with local scientists and naturalists; develop methods to implement the Global Youth’s Accord for Biodiversity, that was created by nine nations during the First Youth Symposium in Mexico in 2005.
