Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) remove the limitations on domain suffixes last Thursday. Companies are now permitted to register any word such as .news, .bank, etc. as a URL suffix. Previously, users were limited to 21 suffixes including .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .edu and more.

Last June 19, 2008, they also hijacked Photobuckeets DNS records which resulted in a denial of service. This attack on ICANN is embarassing, last week they declared the extension of generic top-level domain name (gTLD) under the new plan and extend the url suffixes next year.
