Frank Gore and Deron Williams have each enjoyed successful athletic careers to this point. The two will next find themselves in the boxing ring facing off in a matchup of ex-NFL Pro Bowl running back vs. ex-NBA All-Star guard.

During his 16 years in the NFL, Gore was a dominant player, rushing for 16,000 yards, the third-most in NFL history, on 3,735 carries with 81 rushing touchdowns. At a position with such a relatively short shelf life, Gore proved an ironman outlier as his 16 seasons are tied for the most ever by a running back.

Williams appeared in 845 games — started 771 — and averaged 16.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 8.1 assists. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, Williams made three All-Star teams and ranked as one of the NBA’s most prolific point guards during his prime.

After stellar careers in their respective sports, both have turned their focus to boxing. Gore has declined chances to return to the NFL to improve in his boxing skills. He is a part owner of an MMA gym in Dallas, and has trained in boxing during the offseason for years.

Williams is also a part owner of an MMA gym, and has been training in martial arts for years. He was a wrestler in high school, but has turned his focus to boxing of late to prepare for the matchup.

The clash of Gore vs. Williams comes as part of a fight card that is headlined by YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and MMA fighter Tyron Woodley. The pair already matched up earlier this year, with Paul winning a split decision.
