Leigh Griffiths: Falkirk sign former Celtic striker until end of season | Football News

Falkirk have signed former Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths on a deal until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old was a free agent after his loan at Dundee – where he made 17 appearances and scored three goals – came to an end last week.

Falkirk moved quickly to sign the Scotland international, with head coach Martin Rennie aiming to guide the club into the Championship.

Automatic promotion hopes are slim, with the club 22 points behind leaders Cove Rangers, but just two points separate the Bairns and Queen’s Park who occupy the final play-off spot.

Griffiths could make his debut against Alloa Athletic on Tuesday, subject to SFA approval.

He said: “I’m really happy to be here. Martin and (assistant coach) Kenny (Miller) made it clear that they thought I could help them with the club’s promotion push.

“For me it’s about getting back enjoying football again and helping the team push up the league.”

Rennie added: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring Leigh to the club.

“He’s a very talented player who has scored goals throughout his career, and I think the timing has worked out really well for both the club and the player to come in and get playing games, and I’m sure scoring goals.”

Griffiths – who signed a new one-year deal at Parkhead last summer – was released by Celtic after making 261 appearances over eight years, scoring 123 goals.

After confirming his departure from the club, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou told Sky Sports News: “He had an outstanding football career at Celtic.

“All of us, we kind of pass through clubs, but you want to leave a mark there when you do.

“Leigh has certainly done that. I think he can look back on his Celtic career with great pride and he goes on to the next chapter of his football career. We wish him all the best.”
