Rams vs. Bengals updates, highlights, results from Los Angeles
Sunday’s Super Bowl 56 matchup is more than 20 years in the making for both the Rams and Bengals. The Rams made it in 2018, but haven’t won since 1999 and the Bengals have never won in their previous three trips, with the most recent in 1988.
The Bengals won the AFC North despite finishing just 10-7 thanks to the strong play of Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, both of whom took home serious hardware at the NFL Honors.

Burrow was named the Comeback Player of the Year after he completed over 70 percent of his passes while throwing for 34 touchdowns and 14 interceptions on the heels of a season where he tore his ACL and MCL in Week 11 of 2020 and missed the rest of the season. Chase was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year with 81 catches for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns, continuing his stellar connection with Burrow dating back to their days at LSU.
The Rams were bolstered thanks to the breakout of wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who led the NFL in receptions, yards and touchdowns as Matthew Stafford’s top target during Stafford’s first year in Los Angeles. There’s been much debate leading up to the game about Stafford’s Hall of Fame credentials, which would almost assuredly get a boost with a win.

Defensively, the Bengals were 17th and 18th in total defense and scoring defense while the Rams were 15th and 17th, respectively, despite having big names like Aaron Donald, Leonard Floyd and Von Miller.
Both squads will also be largely healthy as tight end Tyler Higbee won’t suit up for the Rams and tight end CJ Uzomah is listed as questionably for the Bengals, as the are the only two skill position players with an injury designation.
