Qatar’s World Cup 2022 campaign ends with loss to Netherlands | Qatar World Cup 2022 News

Qatar become first World Cup hosts to lose all three group matches, the last one 2-0 to the Dutch.

The Dutch barely broke a sweat in their 2-0 win over Qatar at the Al-Bayt Stadium, ending the hosts’ World Cup campaign with a third straight defeat.

Cody Gakpo put the Netherlands ahead midway through the first half with his third goal in as many matches, and Frenkie de Jong doubled the advantage five minutes into the second half.

The result sends the Netherlands in to the last 16, with Qatar having played their final game in the World Cup.

The defeat means Qatar, current Asian champions, become the first World Cup hosts to lose all three group matches.

The Netherlands are a three-time runner-up at the World Cup, and also finished third in 2014, while Qatar was making its tournament debut.

The Dutch failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
