Argentina Open: Carlos Alcaraz defeats Cameron Norrie in straight sets to be crowned champion | Tennis News

Britain’s Cameron Norrie has lost in straight sets to top seed Carlos Alcaraz
in the final of the Argentina Open.

Second seed Norrie, a Wimbledon semi-finalist last year, had been seeking a fifth ATP Tour singles title at the clay-court event in Buenos Aires.

But Alcaraz, returning after being sidelined since November with abdominal and leg injuries, proved too strong, the 19-year-old US Open champion triumphing 6-3, 7-5 in just over an hour-and-a-half to become the youngest Argentina Open champion.

The contest started out as a close one as Norrie fought hard to get level at 3-3, but from there, the World No 2 took control and won the first set comfortably at 6-3.

The second set followed a similar storyline to the first, Norrie working hard once again to fightback from 3-0 down to bring it level at 5-5 as Alcaraz missed a chance to win the match.
