SWPL: Hearts defender Emma Brownlie wins monthly award | Football News

Hearts defender Emma Brownlie has been named SWPL player of the month for January.

The 29-year-old started in all three matches last month as Hearts picked up four points including an impressive goalless draw at home to champions Rangers.

Brownlie’s free-kick was the difference as the Jambos beat Aberdeen 1-0 at Balmoral Stadium.

She has been a key part of Hearts’ success at the back this season. They have conceded 18 goals in 18 games, compared with last season where they leaked 66 goals in 27 games.

Brownlie becomes the first Hearts player to win the SWPL’s monthly award since 2019.

The other nominees for the January SWPL award were Amy Gallacher (Celtic), Danni McGinley (Dundee United), and Hannah Stewart (Aberdeen).
