Hull KR head coach Willie Peters believes a strong defensive performance will ensure his side gets a big win over Leeds Rhinos on Friday night.

The Robins welcome a fired up Leeds side after their huge comeback win against the Catalans Dragons last time out.

The Rhinos mounted a stunning revival with Richie Myler and Jarrod O’Connor both touching down before tries from Derrell Olpherts, Tom Holroyd and finally Harry Newman sealed the win.

However, head coach Peters is not fazed by the prospect of a huge match with Leeds and believes that if his side find the defensive “mindset” they displayed against Wakefield Trinity last time out, they will be “in control” of the clash.

“Leeds will be confident again after last week, we know that,” said Peters.

“But we are in full control of the outcome if we get ourselves right and keep working towards it.

“I thought our defence last week really showed up and showed how connected the group is and how hard they work for each other.

“That won’t change this week. We need to have the same mindset.

“We always said, once you get your defence right, you build more confidence in your attack and you get more opportunity with the ball, you get in better field position and that is no different this week.

“We will be looking to shut down a few of their key men and making sure we defend the way we did last week.”

Despite his desire to get another win under his belt, Peters is also focused on making sure he has a strong and cohesive squad that can build as the long season progresses.

“Obviously you want to have as many wins as possible, but when you break the season down game by game, I think we are reasonably happy with what we have done,” he added.

“We have had some adversity around who has been in and who is out but we have said all along we are a squad and whoever comes in, it is a next man up mentality.

“We definitely want to get some cohesion now and some consistency around who takes the field wihout having to chop and change through injury.

“No doubt we are heading in the right direction, we have been in every game.”

Leeds will also be boosted as England international Mikolaj Oledzki returns to the squad following shoulder surgery in the off-season, James Bentley also returning after his suspension last week.

For Hull KR, there are welcome returns of Jordan Abdull, Frankie Halton and Dean Hadley to the squad.
