Fernando Alonso is spun around by Carlos Sainz during a chaotic race restart at the Australian GP
Carlos Sainz’s Australian GP time penalty has been upheld after Ferrari’s right of review request was dismissed by stewards on Tuesday.
The Spaniard was demoted from fourth to 12th in Melbourne after being penalised five seconds for causing a collision with Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso following a chaotic penultimate-lap standing restart, which saw two other crashes take place before a red flag was thrown for the third time in the race.
Ferrari were required to provide significant, new and relevant evidence for the stewards to re-open the case.
However, in a virtual hearing on Tuesday morning, it was determined Ferrari failed to do this.
