National Signing Day: How Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and others revealed their signees



Wednesday marks the start of the early signing period, with the top high school football players across the country signing with colleges to play at the next level.

For college programs, it is the first chance to introduce their signees to their fan bases, as once players are signed, teams can officially promote them. And that, they certainly do.

College football Twitter accounts roll out elaborate videos and graphics as they welcome the next wave of talent to the team.

Sporting News takes a look at some of the most intricate early signing day period social media posts from colleges across the country.

Alabama

Crimson Tide signees get a two-part introduction. First, Alabama posts a graphic with their name, position and high school.

Next, each player gets their own video with some added photos, all of them donning their Alabama gear.

Clemson

The Tigers really roll out all the stops to introduce their new signees. It starts with a photo of the recruit with the Clemson alma mater.

Next up, each player has a video featuring their name and high school and some highlights from their high school days. It starts with them in their letterman jacket. It ends with them transforming into a Clemson uniform.

Lastly, each player is given a statement about what it means to be joining the program.

Florida State

*Record scratch*   you’re probably wondering how the Seminoles got here .  Florida State’s videos start with a platinum record displaying information about and photos of their signees.

Georgia

The Bulldogs keep it simple with their introduction. Georgia signees each have unique graphic designs featuring them posing in Bulldog attire with their name, along with the state from which they came.

Indiana

These players have a long way to go until they’re in Madden, but the Hoosiers already have their signees taking that jump. The first video is short, featuring the signee with their information along with a 99 overall rating.

If fans wait a few more minutes, they’ll get a longer version of the video where the introduction is followed up by high school highlights.

Iowa

Information like position and high school is already out there for everyone to know. But what about their favorite musical artists? Best dinner guests? The Hawkeyes unveil their next star talents with a list of icebreakers to help fans get to know their players better.

LSU

Already selling merchandise? That’s what the Tigers have on tap for their recruits. Each player is introduced in a graphic featuring a “limited edition” copy of rookie cards with the recruits posing in LSU uniforms.

Michigan

Instead of rookie cards, how about miniature statues? Michigan unveils their signees in a video as a figurine before they are seen wearing their full Michigan attire.

North Carolina

The Tar Heels first introduce their recruits in a video with their jumpman shoes in the background.

Next, fans can get a chance to see the latest UNC football player from high school to see the talent in the player they are getting.

Notre Dame

Fans already reacting to a Notre Dame signing? That’s what the Fighting Irish show in their videos. Learn everything there is to know about each recruit from a variety of different people in each video.

Sometimes, even the priests will join in the introductions.

Ohio State

The Buckeyes start off their posts with graphics of the latest student-athlete to join their ranks.

Then, a former Buckeye, like quarterback Joe Germaine, appears in a video to talk about the latest signee.

Oklahoma

The Sooners have a storied football tradition, and they show it off in each video of their new signees. Get ready to see some Oklahoma highlights with each recruit.

Oklahoma State

The Cowboys are taking shoebox dioramas to a new level. Each shoebox includes information about the signee on the side, and inside the box, is Boone Pickens Stadium with highlights from the recruit’s high school days.

Penn State

The Nittany Lions also take multiple steps to introduce their new recruits. First up is a short video showing the signee donning their new Penn State attire.

Next up is a tweet with a few key things to know about each signee, including their high school and some stats from the gridiron.

Throughout the day, Penn State alumni discuss what it means to be a Nittany Lion.

Stanford

New Cardinal players get their own football cards, and each one is desginated as being a rare card. It’s a short video that features a few bits of quick information on each player.

Then, listen to the player introduce himself to the Stanford football world, along with photos and videos from his high school playing days.

Texas A&M

Juice box? Yes, a juice box. Each player finds themselves on the front of a juice box, featuring the ingredients that go into making the latest member of the Aggies.

Texas A&M then adds a second tweet with information about its new signee, including the link to the player’s new team bio page.

USC

The Trojans go full Hollywood to roll out their new signees. USC rolls through Los Angeles and posts up a picture of their new player on a palm tree and shows them walking through the stadium and the streets of L.A. with a USC flag.
